Stretch It Out
I had a student who was having a really hard time figuring out how to blend phonemes into words. He would sound out each sound but could not put it together. For some reason this Word Work center helped it click (thankfully!). I found the printable cards here: http://fromkindergartenwithlove.blogspot.com/2011/07/stretchy-word-snake.html . I have seen a lot of variations for this technique but I could not find a snake that I liked to print so I went with "Stretch It Out" and used a picture of Stretch Armstrong. I need to find an actual Stretch Armstrong to go with this center!
Shake A Word
Another Word Work center. One student in particular loves this one. Not sure why but he really loves it. :) No complaining from me! Students shake the jar & try to make a REAL word. Then they record it on a sheet of handwriting paper. I just made the cubes out of construction paper.
Daily 5 Rocks!
Nothing like a good old fashioned semantic shift! Yes I'm a nerd but I can't help it. Have always loved that term since I learned it from Dr. Jacobsen. : )
This Word Work center is to help the kids practice spelling with blends/digraphs. I write the letters/blends/digraphs on the back of the rock BACKWARDS then coated with clear polish for durability. I made the vowels red to go with our vowel poster in our room which is red. Eventually I will remove the notecards with words on them & make them come up with their own words. I found this idea here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRAyI2ivBqk
This guy is awesome! Check out all his videos. He is so enthusiastic!!!
